Poker Card Hands: The Ability To Start The Game Correctly As The Key To Success

  • Monster hands or premiums are pair A or pair K – they fall out relatively rarely, but it is much easier to win the hand with them. But even with such pocket hands, there is a high probability of losing the hand, especially when there are three or more opponents in the game. For example, with a pair of aces against one player, the chances of winning are 80%, and at a full table – 30%;
  • The starting pairs are Q, J, or A— K. In the case of entering the trade with starting poker card hands pairs Q or J, as a rule, the player will have the best combination at the pre-flop stage. Playing these starting hands in poker is safe and aggressive;
  • There are pair 10-10 and connectors A-Q, A-J, K-Q. At the same time, the connectors can be both offsuit and suited, but it is better if the latter. Most gamers like these hands because they are winning. It is also worth considering that one or more poker players with A-K can respond to the raise. And then the starting hand K-Q is already losing.

There are several types of starting hand tables in poker. Some describe only the probabilities of winning with the poker card hands, and others are more complete. They also take into account the position at the gaming table, as well as the decision of the opponents.

The Order Of Winning Poker Combinations

The value of poker combinations is determined by how rare or, conversely, how frequent they are. Moreover, the most frequent combinations are rated lower than the rarer ones. The complete list of poker card hands is as follows, in ascending order of strength:

  • High Card;
  • Pair;
  • Two Pair;
  • Three of a Kind;
  • Straight;
  • Flush;
  • Full House;
  • Four of a Kind;
  • Straight Flush.

Starting poker hand rankings are the basis of the strategy. From their assessment, the player begins to make a decision – to enter the auction or not. At the same time, it takes into account the position at the table, so within different hands, the range of playable starting hands may change.
